Postdoctoral Research Staff Member - Experimentalist

We have an opening for a Postdoctoral Plasma Physicist/Engineer. You will work on Z-pinch experiments, accelerator experiments, and other technically challenging problems. This position is in the National Security Engineering Division (NSED) within the Engineering Directorate.
Essential Duties
- Conduct research in and development of one or more of the following areas: z-pinch plasmas, plasma diagnostics, or accelerator diagnostics.
- Design, implement, and analyze techniques in one or more of the above areas.
- Organize, analyze, and present data from research.
- Contribute to and actively participate in the conception, design, and execution of research to address defined problems.
- Pursue independent (but complementary) research interests and interact with a broad spectrum of scientists internally and externally to the Laboratory.
- Collaborate with others in a multidisciplinary team environment to accomplish research goals.
- Publish research results in peer-reviewed scientific or technical journals and present results at external conferences seminars and/or technical meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Recent PhD in Physics, Engineering, or related field.
- Experience with one or more of the following areas: plasma experiments, plasma diagnostics, beam diagnostics.
- Demonstrated ability as an innovative experimentalist with a broad range of experience in experimental design, techniques, and execution.
- Demonstrated ability to develop independent research projects as demonstrated through publication of peer-reviewed literature.
- Demonstrated proficient verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively in a team environment and present and explain technical information.
- Demonstrated initiative and interpersonal skills and ability to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment.
Desired Qualifications
- Familiarity with Z-pinch plasmas.
- Familiarity with space-charge-dominated plasma beams.

Pre-Employment Drug Test: External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.

Anticipated Clearance Level: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.

Note: This is a one-year Postdoctoral term appointment with the possibility of extension to a maximum of three years. Eligible candidates are recent PhDs within five years of the month of the degree award at time of hire date. This position is also listed as 101412 in the Physical and Life Sciences (PLS) Directorate.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
