For more than 60 years, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has applied science and technology to make the world a safer place.
We have two openings for Web/software developers to work on a team that helps users visualize, understand, and handle data. You will apply advanced web technologies by applying software development and design experience to achieve cutting-edge secure web-based services ranging from dashboards to job management interfaces to developing software-as-a-service portals. These positions are in the Enterprise Applications Division in the Computation Directorate.
These positions will be filled at either the SES.2 or SES.3 level depending on yourqualifications.Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if you are selected at the higher level.
Essential Duties
Design, develop and manage a wide range of applications including web server architecture, maintaining custom Apache modules, managing proxy and conventional web servers, and insuring web services are supported.
Use independent judgment in designing and developing software architectures for complex web-based applications and portals that enable users and staff to better utilize and understand resources.
Work directly with staff members in various areas to assure that information visualization requirements of the center are being met.
Evaluate, enhance, test, and troubleshoot existing web scripts, tools, and associated components.
Contribute to the fulfillment of technical projects and organizational objectives functioning as an effective team member on multi-disciplinary teams.
Perform software engineering using established development practices, tools, and processes for achieving robust software quality; including testing, configuration management, change management, and documentation.
Remain current in applicable software development and design practices.
Perform other duties as assigned.
In addition at the SES.3 Level
Independently apply in-depth technical expertise to solve complex problems existing throughout a heterogeneous distributed environment. This will involve working with technical staff with different areas of expertise throughout the division and laboratory.
Provide technical leadership and guide efforts to develop tools or processes for improving the efficiency and operations of users and staff.
Effectively perform duties using independent judgment and minimal direction.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in computer science or related field or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
Ability to develop complex, robust web applications using JavaScript, jQuery, and jQueryUI.
Demonstrated user interface design and information visualization skills and knowledge of software testing/quality assurance strategies.
Proficiency in object oriented programming with high-level languages such as C+
or Java and interpreted languages such as Perl or Python.
Effective analytical and problem-solving skills to contribute to creative solutions to complex problems.
Knowledge of and experience with core web development technologies, including HTML, CSS, AJAX, or XML.
Proficient verbal and written communication skills necessary to work effectively with application developers, system programmers, and other technical staff.
Experience developing software in a team environment.
In addition at the SES.3 Level
Significant experience and demonstrated ability to lead independent work
Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills to contribute to creative solutions to complex problems in cross-organizational efforts.
Significant knowledge of and experience with user interface design and implementation in a complex web environment, using modern web technologies.

Anticipated Clearance Level:
Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
