General Engineer/Physical Scientist
As a General Engineer or Physical Scientist, you will:
Conduct surveys to verify fulfillment of contractor's construction estimates used to determine monthly progress payments to the contractor.
Oversee in-house and contracted construction projects and/or program segments; prepare cost estimates, evaluate and advise on contractual proposals, and participate in negotiations with contractors.
Evaluate, oversee, direct, or advise contracted work to ensure quality and compliance with plans, designs, and specifications.
Serve on and advise contractor selection boards, contract negotiation proceedings, and panels and committees of other Federal, State, or local government agencies and commercial organizations.
Direct and/or oversee nuclear plant operations involving rigorous acceptance tests or changes to the plant system in support of modifications or overhaul work projects Ensure safe operations by evaluating and verifying requests to perform authorized maintenance and repair work on components.
Detect the need for and prepare detailed instructions or changes to procedures for the assembly and installation of test equipment, accomplish tests or operations, and dialing schedules to sequence work, tests, and plant operations.

Skill in written & oral communication methods to work with all levels of DOE/NNSA management, contractors and private industry regarding programs, projects, policies and legislation in order to conduct negotiations, solve problems, present briefings or conduct reviews.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience.
Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include:
volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations.
Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
