Not required RELOCATION INCENTIVE/RECRUITMENT INCENTIVE IS NOT AUTHORIZED The incumbent is responsible for independent diagnostic assessment and evaluation of cases that are referred to Speech-Language Pathology without limitation as to difficulty or complexity. This includes selection and use of appropriate instrument evaluations (e.g. videofluroscopy, stroboscopy, FEES, nasometry, electroglottography, etc.) consistent with privileges, and evaluation of patients for augmentative communication systems (e.g., Tobii Dynavox systems, iPad tablet applications, etc.). The incumbent will be responsible to conduct interviews with the patients and appropriate family members and/or friends, selects, administers and interprets the diagnostic test necessary to detect and evaluate any type of speech, language, voice, fluency, cognitive, and/or swallowing disorders. The major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
perform ancillary assignments, including program management duties on an occasional basis, where the complexity and amount of the work is not substantial. Participate in research activities pertinent to speech-language pathology. Although limited research is conducted in the clinical setting, the use of carefully executed procedures may be a part of a research design. Responsible for supervising, mentoring, and precepting student trainees in speech-language pathology and maintaining liaisons with affiliated colleges and universities. He/she may also provide instruction to residents and interns who seek information related to speech-language pathology practice. Serves as a consultant to other facility personnel involving the most difficult and complex cases and is a recognized subject matter expert on matters related to speech, language voice, fluency, cognitive, and swallowing disorders. A master's degree or its equivalent in speech-language pathology, communication disorders, or a directly related field from an accredited college or university. Accredited means a college or university recognized by a regional accreditation organization and a speech-language pathology academic program recognized by the Council on Academic Accreditation of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). (NOTE:
TRANSCRIPTS MUST BE SUBMITTED WITH THE APPLICATION MATERIALS. CONFERRAL OF DEGREE(S) EARNED SHOULD BE PRESENT ON TRANSCRIPT(S). UNOFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT(S) IS OK.) May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation). Experience/Education. Completion of 1 year of professional experience comparable to the next lower level GS-11 and possession of a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice speech-language pathology. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the KSAs identified for the assignment. Ability to develop coherent treatment strategies; Ability to incorporate new clinical procedures sufficient to perform clinical services independently; Ability to conduct assessments, provide treatment interventions, and provide consultation to other health care professionals; Knowledge of instrumentation used in speech-language pathology; Knowledge of principles and techniques used in alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) systems, diagnosis and treatment of dysphagia, and cognitive-communication disorders; Knowledge of principles and techniques used in voice disorders including alaryngeal and trach/ventilator-dependent patients; and Ability to perform functions associated with contemporary speech-language pathology practice.
