Information Technology Specialist Data Scientist)

This position is located in the Department of Energy, Office of Inspector General (OIG), Office of the Assistant Inspector General for Technology, Financial, and Analytics (OTFA) as an Information Technology (IT) Specialist (Data Scientist), the individual selected will be responsible for:
Performing data analyses including statistical, special statistics, optimization, Bayesian statistics, and simulation modeling. Educates and empowers the organization to apply new analytic techniques and software. Interacts with analysts and OIG and Department officials to understand business processes, gather requirements, develop analysis methodologies, and coordinate ongoing iterative development of data products. Researches, analyzes, and interprets underlying data; developing algorithms to evaluate domain data (such as customer, finance, operational) to address business questions or issues. Develops and presents background material on proposed designs, procedures, concepts, optimization, and statistical models, and results. Communicate with nontechnical stakeholders. Works closely with other OIG components to coordinate and track existing work and/or the initiation of proactive projects. Mentors and provides assistance and direction in the training of lower graded analysts, IT specialists, as well as assistance to other OIG functions. You may qualify for this position based on specialized experience. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position being filled. To qualify for the GS-13 grade level, you must possess one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level. To qualify for the GS-14 grade level, you must possess one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level. Examples of specialized experience include:
Working with customers to assess their needs, providing information or assistance and resolving their problems. Ensuring proper implementation and adherence to IT security policies. Evaluating and recommending hardware/software changes. Developing and implementing web design features. Providing clear and concise oral presentations. The successful applicant for this position will possess the following KSAs/competencies:

Ability to perform data analyses. Ability to develop and document statistical models, optimization models and reports using various programs. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
